I would have thought the cost of transportation would likely more than offset the savings in terms of hotels. Not sure how practical it would be to use cheap public transportation to make that trip every day to attend a meeting .

Although Singapore may be called a city state like Hong Kong there is quite a bit more to it than just the city and the causeway to Malaysia is the other side of the island from the Metropolitan area.

In the case of HK the MTR does go all the way to the border and then the Schenzhen subway is accessible from the other side, however I wouldn't think it would be very practical to try to commute every day between HK and Schenzhen either and I expect a similar or worse situation exists between Singapore and Malaysia.

This is coming from someone who commuted every day to Yokohama from downtown Tokyo which was actually quite cheap (about $5 US each way) although it took about and hour each way.

Yes, I wasn't suggesting it because of laws, but rather because I thought it
might have a larger variety of price ranges in hotels.
