Which of course raises the question: what do they actually do? The AD job
description is strikingly concise.

It seems to me that it's a lot of work, and requires knowing which people
need to be in which conversations. That takes both technical and political
savvy.

It might be that the desirability and responsibility of an AD role will ebb
and flow with the necessity for negotiation in a given area.
