>NNTP is a very nicely distributed service, but it is not used at scale. Dunno what scale means here. I looked at my news spool and there seem to be only about 600 hosts swapping mail by nntp, but the large hosts like Giganews and Eternal September have lots of clients using the NNRP flavor of NNTP to read and post.
