Yeah, no. Protocols work when everybody follows them. The protocol for posting to the IETF list is clear and has been articulated "don't put the bullshit footer on there, it's not part of the IETF list communication protocol". The moderation team have said quite clearly "your messages are wasting the time of thousands of people with this extra nonsense". I have limited sympathy for Dan in this. He may have a good point. It's been made really clear how he can make it. If he doesn't wish to speak "IETF mailing list" protocol, then that's his willing choice. We don't change any of our other published protocols just because one weirdo decides that they want to interpret the line protocol differently than what's written in the RFC. They might be lucky and their packets get through anyway, they might not. Be liberal in what you accept and all that. But also, be conservative in what you send. Dan is violating that, and reaping the consequences of his choice. This is no comment on the content of his messages, merely on the continued use of unnecessary text. WHY SHOULD I BE FORCED TO IGNORE THEM? Me and thousands of others. Nope. We should not force thousands of people to adjust for the malbehaviour of the few. Sorry. Nope. Dan knows perfectly well how to have his messages read by this list, and can make his choice about whether he wants that more than he wants to cling to said boilerplate. Bron.
