No, it really isn't that profound. The IESG has done its job in a way consistent with its charter, so the issue of non-derivative works clauses on emails to IETF lists is settled. We (the community) can choose to make a very mild update to the rules to confirm that, at our leisure. Or not bother. Or overrule the IESG, but that seems highly unlikely.
