A rigorous application of a standard can inhibit participation or
some participants may reduce their interaction to people they are
familiar with. The IESG is aware of the "people they are familiar
with" issue since around 2004. I did not look up the year. I could
do so if it is needed.
There is the following sentence in one of the templates:
"We are happy to discuss suggestions for how to convey the same
message in an
appropriate way if you would like to discuss that."
The intention is good. I would not use that sentence in an email
exchange with a participant who does not speak English in his/her
daily life as it could be viewed as patronizing {1}.
