Hi Henrik,

this is sad news indeed.

I’m sure not very many in the IETF realize how much the cogs and wheels of the IETF standards creation process have relied on your diligent work, and on your foresight on where we should move towards.  That will make for not-so-smooth operation in the next couple of years, although I’m sure the tools team will be up to the challenge.

On an organizational level, this shows again our talent to not handle the spectrum between volunteer expert contributions and contract management properly.  We seem to have a knack for creating what might in other places be called a “hostile work environment”…  I don’t have specific proposals right now, except maybe that we put this problem a little higher on our agenda.

This is also quite sad on a personal level.  I enjoyed meeting you at IETFs (even if the time was always limited), and I enjoyed your solution-focused approach to my sometimes a bit terse emails when something went wrong (or just didn’t work as I imagined it should).  Of all the reasons why you might want to change what you do and how you do it, the situation you mention sounds particularly unpleasant.  In any case, I wish you good luck and happiness in your next endeavors.  Here in the IETF, you will be missed.
