I will echo the sentiments expressed here re Fred. As an early career
engineer in the late 90s when I felt a serious lack of confidence, Fred was
reassuring, pooh poohed the criticism and offered to vouch for me. That was
probably one of the defining moments of my career. He was smart, practical,
and available for the people and the technical paths we needed to follow.
As Eliot said - he showed up, he did the work, and he was a mentor to many.

What a contribution. I will really miss him.
