Ok, yes, it's not a perfect metaphor, for the reasons you say. However,
a lot of the same people involved in Amateur Radio, especially Amateur
Packet Radio, are also frequently involved in Community Networking using
WiFi and they have a lot of common goals. Basically, I was looking at it
the who and why of it, but yes the hows, the technologies are completely
different.
