Well, as I've said before (and as I say in the upcoming draft "IMAP 
Implementation Recommendations"), if this feature is important to you, you 
must be sure to pick a server configuration that supports it.  If your 
existing mail system requires that you run, at least in part, a 
configuration that doesn't supprort this, then you must live with the 
limitations.  There are always trade-offs when you want to support new 
facilities in an old setup.

It's my opinion that as IMAP becomes more and more widespread, server 
configurations that do not support multiple concurrent clients accessing 
the same mailbox will fairly quickly become obsolete, necessary though they 
are at first (to support existing mail stores).
