Greg Mirsky, Xiao Min, and I have uploaded a combined draft that includes our individual contributions to the proposed ECN extension for STAMP.

This draft replaces the two drafts:
draft-white-ippm-stamp-ecn
draft-mirsky-ippm-stamp-cos-ext

The details of the merge and subsequent edits are:

- The Abstract and Introduction contain language from both drafts.
- The ECN field from draft-mirsky-ippm-stamp-cos-ext is relabeled “EC2” and REC is relabeled as “EC1” so that the naming is consistent with the DSCP field names.
- The suggestion from Xiao Min to not overload the RP field, and instead define a new RP field specifically for the return path for ECN has been adopted.  We renamed “RP” as “RPD” (Return Path DSCP), and named the new RP field as “RPE” (Return Path ECN).  Note that the syntax is different between these two (out of necessity).  RPD=0b00 means that the return path DSCP is as specified in the DSCP1 value, and RPD=0b01 means that the return path DSCP uses the DSCP2 value.  RPE=0b00 means that the return path ECN is unknown, and RPE=0b01 means that the return path ECN is as specified in the EC1 value.  (NOTE: we may want to include a sentence to make the reader aware of this)
- Rather than referring the reader to RFC8972 to understand how to implement the original fields, we copied the text from RFC8972 (including its Erratum) and fixed some additional things in that text.
- We consolidated the text that discussed backwards compatibility into a single paragraph for each case.
- We updated the security considerations section

Abstract:


The Simple Two-Way Active Measurement Protocol (STAMP) enables one-
way and round-trip measurement of network metrics between IP hosts,
and has a facility for defining optional extensions. This document
updates the definition of the Class of Service TLV (originally
defined in RFC 8972) to enable the measurement of manipulation of the
value of the Explicit Congestion Notification (ECN) field of the IP
header by middleboxes between two STAMP hosts, and to enable
discovery and measurement of paths that provide differential
treatment of packets depending on the value of their ECN field.
