Hi Tal,

Thanks for drawing my attention to this discussion,
the tradeoffs are nicely presented in section 7. [0]

After working on the AURA draft in this working group,
I see some value in the more accurate of the two
approaches described (seems to be the Hop Count approach).

I’m sure there will be other, perhaps practical aspects
to consider, too.

regards,
Al

Hi,

This is the first "draft-ietf" version of this document, with minor changes compared to the previous version.
The main changes compared to the previous version:
- The term collector was replaced by a more general term - "receiving entity".
- Some unused references were removed.

We would like feedback regarding the main open issue in this document (described in Section 7), regarding the Hop Limit / Hop Count.. Specifically, we are looking for feedback about the question: do you think the DEX option should include an explicit Hop Count field?

Cheers,
Tal.

Abstract:
In-situ Operations, Administration, and Maintenance (IOAM) is used
for recording and collecting operational and telemetry information.
Specifically, IOAM allows telemetry data to be pushed into data
packets while they traverse the network. This document introduces a
new IOAM option type called the Direct Export (DEX) option, which is
used as a trigger for IOAM data to be directly exported without being
   pushed into in-flight data packets.
