MNs must discover routers on the OMNI link through IPv6 ND messaging the same as for any
link. As a Non-Broadcast, Multiple Access (NBMA) link type, however, MNs will often need
to send explicit RS messages to receive solicited RA replies, and they must do so over all of
the underlying interfaces so that the router is provided with the full picture of the MN's
multilink environment. The OMNI interface therefore generates per-underlying-interface
RS/RA messaging internally at a layer below the IPv6 layer. The resulting RA messages will
include Router Lifetimes that tell how long the router can be considered as a default router
over that underlying interface. This arrangement is somewhat unique among common
IPv6 interfaces, but has strong parallels to NBMA. Please bring any discussion points
regarding OMNI interface Router Discovery under this thread.
