Hi Ketan,

On May 21, 2020, at 8:28 AM, Ketan Talaulikar (ketant) <ketant=40cisco.com@dmarc.ietf.org<mailto:ketant=40cisco.com@dmarc.ietf.org>> wrote:

[and this text is repeated in your conclusion]

Ron did respond to this complaint in a reply to Darren Dukes on May 14 (see https://mailarchive.ietf.org/arch/msg/ipv6/OG3XDVKUYVYaLP3F2T6E1NK3uOQ/), offering some draft text and asking

"If I were to add the following sections to the draft, would they address your concern. If not, what else is needed? Please be specific.”

If you haven’t reviewed his proposed text, please do.
[KT] I have reviewed it and it is insufficient. One only needs to follow the discussions during the adoption call to understand this.

If you have, and if it doesn’t address your concerns, it seems you should offer something more specific than “not documented in the draft”.
[KT] Are you asking me to guess what the proposal is? It does seem however that you are aware of the intricate details of the proposal. You are also an expert on routing with experience in definition of the architecture of one Source Routing solution (Spring). As such may be you could help the authors explain the proposal – a good reference might be the following:

https://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-filsfils-rtgwg-segment-routing-00 that later became RFC8402
https://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-previdi-spring-problem-statement-00 that later became RFC7855
https://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-martin-spring-segment-routing-ipv6-use-cases-00 that later became RFC8354

In the spirit of IETF, I request the authors to do the work so that the proposal can be reviewed by the community in proper context.

Judging by Ron’s email responses he does seem to have a lot more context that what’s in the draft - otherwise he would be making things up as we go. If it is the latter case, he should perhaps state so – at least then the WG knows this is an exploratory/experimental thing.

So why the rush and the shortcuts – why not the proper documentation before asking for WG adoption?

Thanks,
Ketan

Regards,

—John
