The IESG has approved the following document:
- 'The Line Identification Destination Option'
  (draft-ietf-6man-lineid-08.txt) as Proposed Standard

Technical Summary

In Ethernet based aggregation networks, several subscriber premises may be logically connected to the same interface of an edge router. This document defines a method for the edge router to identify the subscriber premises using the contents of the received Router Solicitation messages. The applicability is limited to broadband network deployment scenarios where multiple user ports are mapped to the same virtual interface on the Edge Router.

Working Group Summary

It was difficult reaching a consensus on this document, hence the two w.g. last calls. This approach was requested by the Broad Band Forum. The issues were resolved by some changes in the document and an explicit statement on its applicability in a limited deployment environment.

Document Quality

This document has been reviewed by many people and the chairs believe there is agreement in the w.g. to move it forward. Significant reviews have been done by Wojciech Dec and Ran Atkinson.

Personnel

Bob Hinden is the Document Shepherd.
Brian Haberman is the Responsible Area Director.
