We’d like to invite you to consider submitting your work to the ACM<https://www.acm.org/>/IRTF Applied Networking Research Workshop 2021 (ANRW’21).

ANRW is an academic workshop that provides a forum for researchers, vendors, network operators, and the Internet standards community to present and discuss emerging results in applied networking research, and to find inspiration from topics and open problems discussed at the IETF<https://ietf.org/>.

ANRW’21 is co-located with IETF 111, which is a virtual event that takes place on July 24-30, 2021.

Important Dates
Paper submission deadline
April 21, 2021

Paper notification deadline
May 26, 2021
Camera-ready paper deadline
June 16, 2021

Submission
ANRW<https://irtf.org/anrw/> ’21 accepts two types of submissions: short papers and lightning papers. Submissions are not anonymous.
All accepted papers will be presented during the workshop and will be published in the ACM<https://www.acm.org/> Digital Library. All accepted papers will be presented during the workshop, and will be published in the ACM<https://www.acm.org/> Digital Library.
Authors are expected to present their paper live during the virtual event. We will also ask the authors to pre-record a short presentation video—to be published on the Internet before the conference—to be used in case nobody is available for presentation (e.g., due to timezone differences, connectivity issues, or other unforeseen events).
Submission Link: https://anrw2021.hotcrp.com/

The workshop combines presentations of new research in the form of short papers and lightning papers. ANRW ‘21 accepts the following types of submissions:

  * Short papers are publications that present new research that has not been previously published. For a short paper to be considered for publication, please submit work describing early/emerging results in a relevant topic area. There is a 6-page limit for short papers, including figures, tables, and any appendices, optionally followed by unlimited additional pages for references.
  * Lightning papers can provide a summary of early, emerging, or on-going work as well as short updates of previously published work. This type of submission will be presented in a short, lightning-talk style. For a lightning paper to be considered for presentation, please submit an extended abstract that is no longer than 2 pages, with a maximum of one additional page for references only.
All accepted papers will be given a presentation slot and the option to prepare a pre-recorded presentation video. Authors are expected to present their paper live during the virtual event. We will also ask the authors to pre-record a short presentation video—to be published on the Internet before the conference—to be used in case nobody is available for presentation (e.g., due to timezone differences, connectivity issues, or other unforeseen events). Please approach the chairs if you intend to submit work but know in advance you will not be able to present this work at the workshop.
ANRW<https://irtf.org/anrw/> ’21 particularly encourages the submission of results that could form the basis for future engineering work in the IETF<https://ietf.org/>, by, for example providing input and analysis on Internet protocols or operational Internet practices, as well as influence further research and experimentation in the IRTF<https://irtf.org/>.
ANRW<https://irtf.org/anrw/> 21 is sponsored by ACM<https://www.acm.org/> SIGCOMM<https://sigcomm.org/>, and the Internet Research Task Force (IRTF<https://irtf.org/>).
Paper topics should be relevant to the standardization activities of related IETF<https://ietf.org/> working groups or activity in related IRTF<https://irtf.org/> research groups.
Topics of Interest

  * Development and deployment experience of new and enhanced Internet protocols (e.g., for transport, security, or routing).
  * Improvements and analysis to the security and privacy of new and existing Internet protocols, including non-standardized techniques such as onion routing.
  * Practical congestion control for heterogeneous networks and novel applications.
  * Better ways of specifying protocols, including usable techniques for protocol verification.
  * Techniques for logging/monitoring of Internet traffic and root-cause analysis, as well as debugging of (encrypted) Internet protocols.
  * Measurement and analysis of existing and new Internet protocols, behavior of Internet traffic, as well as transparency of Internet paths, including filtering, prioritization, throttling, and blocking.
  * Measurement and analysis of the performance of networks, including the performance or quality of experience of networked applications.
  * Measurements and analysis of privacy risks and privacy enhancing technologies.
  * Design, measurement, analysis, or deployment of wireless, mobile, and cellular networks.
  * Deployment and evolution of DNS<https://datatracker.ietf.org/wg/dns/about/>, CDNs, anycast, and other wide-area services.
  * Management and deployment of secure network protocols, applications, and systems, including Internet of Things (IoT) systems.
  * Research and analysis of consolidation and centralization of the Internet.
  * Approaches for decentralized and in-network computation.
  * Evolution of interconnection, and new approaches on network management, operations, and control.
  * Internet availability in challenging environments (e.g., natural disaster situations, remote areas).

Paper Novelty
An accepted paper that is published must not be based on previously published work, and cannot describe work that is currently under submission to another venue. An accepted paper that is published also must not plagiarize the work of its authors or of any other authors.
The ACM<https://www.acm.org/> Policy and Procedures on Plagiarism applies to the ANRW<https://irtf.org/anrw/>, and action will be taken against submitters who have engaged in such practices.
Papers accompanied by nondisclosure agreement requests will not be considered for review or publication, nor ever be disclosed.
Reviews
All submissions will be peer reviewed (single-blind). Reviews will be shared with the authors.
Authors and TPC members provide conflict-of-interest information. It is important that all authors of a submission are indicated in the submission system and that all authors enter any conflicts of interest. Broadly, a conflict of interest exists when:

  * You are currently employed at the same organization, have been previously employed at the same organization within the last twelve months, or are going to begin employment at the same organization.
  * You have a past or present professional relationship, such as thesis advisement, collaboration on a project, publication, or grant proposal within the past two years.
These are examples – use your own good judgment.
