I’m pleased to announce that the Applied Networking Research Prize
(ANRP) award talks at IETF 115 will be given by:

Gautam Akiwate for his work on the risks of domain hijacking due to
registrar practices:

* Gautam Akiwate, Stefan Savage, Geoffrey M. Voelker, and K. C. Claffy,
“[Risky BIZness: Risks Derived from Registrar Name
Management](https://dl.acm.org/doi/10.1145/3487552.3487816)”,
Proceedings of the ACM Internet Measurement Conference, 2021.

Corrine Cath for her ethnographic work on the IETF’s distinct
organizational culture and how its ‘rough’ edges limit the ability
of human rights’ advocates to get their concerns included in technical
discussions:

* Corinne Cath, “[The Technology We Choose to Create: Human Rights
Advocacy in the Internet Engineering Task
Force](https://doi.org/10.1016/j.telpol.2021.102144)”,
Telecommunications Policy Journal, volume 45, number 6, 2021 (an updated
version of this work is available in open access form as [Chapter 7 of
Corinne’s PhD
thesis](https://corinnecath.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/CathCorinne-Thesis-DphilInformationCommunicationSocialSciences.pdf)).

Daniel Wagner for his work on DDoS attack detection and mitigation:

* Daniel Wagner, Daniel Kopp, Matthias Wichtlhuber, Christoph Dietzel,
Oliver Hohlfeld, Georgios Smaragdakis, and Anja Feldmann, “[United We
Stand: Collaborative Detection and Mitigation of Amplification DDoS
Attacks at Scale](https://dl.acm.org/doi/10.1145/3460120.3485385)”,
Proceedings of the ACM Conference on Computer and Communications
Security, 2021

The presentations will take place during the IRTF Open Meeting at IETF
115 in London, during the week of 5-11 November 2022. A live stream will
be available for those unable to attend in person.

The Applied Networking Research Prize recognises the best recent
results in applied networking research, interesting new research ideas
of potential relevance to the Internet standards community, and
people who are likely to have an impact on Internet standards
and technologies in the future.

The ANRP is supported by the Internet Society and the IRTF, and
sponsored by Comcast and NBC Universal.
