ISIS WG,

I want to draw the attention of the WG to this new draft which we
will also be presenting in Prague.

The extensions described in draft-bowers-isis-te-attribute-set,
together with those in draft-hegde-isis-advertising-te-protocols,
address the same problem space as draft-ginsberg-isis-te-app.

We think the approach described in these two drafts is both less disruptive and more
flexible than the approach described in draft-ginsberg-isis-te-app.

It is less disruptive because it only requires the introduction of new advertisements
in network deployments that need this more complex functionality.

The approach is also more flexible because routers simply advertise
properties of links with extra scoping information (attribute-set and srlg-set ids).
Applications are free to use this information as they see fit. Once the appropriate
property scoping information is being advertised, introducing
a new application does not require touching the routers to modify
the property advertisements.

With draft-ginsberg-isis-te-app, a router needs to explicitly advertise
the applications that are expected to use a given link property. Adding a
new application to the network requires that the routers be modified to
explicitly advertise link properties as being usable by the new application.
This approach seems cumbersome and restrictive.

Chris

Abstract:
This document specifies encodings that allow traffic engineering
attributes to be associated with different TE attribute set
identifiers and SRLGs to be associated with SRLG set identifiers.

Please note that it may take a couple of minutes from the time of submission until the htmlized version and diff are available at tools.ietf.org.
