The idea of tossing it all in a pot and forgetting about it until it's done is a good one but it really doesn't work that way. I'd love to put it all in the pot in the morning and have a fantastic meal ready at dinner time when I get home. I also brown my roast well before I put it into the crock pot. One thing you didn't mention is seasoning. The meat should be well seasoned and I always throw a bay leaf in. Like others, I use beef stock, not bouillon.

Since I am embarking on the summer/fall season of canning and preserving, I thought I'd start a new thread. I have "put up" 6 l of strawberry jam today. The season is almost over, so I'm off to the berry farm tomorrow to pick anouther 4-6 4-l baskets of strawberries before the season ends. What are you canning or preserving today? http://www.foodsafety.gov/keep/basics/clean/index.html
* Wet your hands with warm or cold running water and apply soap.
* Rub your hands together to make a lather and scrub them well. Be sure to scrub the backs of your hands, between your fingers, and under your nails. Bacteria can hide out here too!
* Continue rubbing hands for at least 20 seconds. Need a timer? Hum Happy Birthday from beginning to end twice.
* Rinse your hands well under running water.
* Dry your hands using a clean towel or air dry.

And when to do it:
* Before eating food.
* Before, during, and after preparing food.
* Before and after treating a cut or wound.
* Before and after caring for someone who is sick.
* After handling uncooked eggs, or raw meat, poultry, seafood, or their juices.
* After blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
* After touching an animal or animal waste.
* After touching garbage.
* After using the toilet.
