I gave the endzone angle on this because I wanted to emphasize just how
hard every Patriots' defender bit on the fake to Patterson. It makes
their defense just completely forget about Matt Asiata. I'm not quite
sure who would have been responsible for Asiata on the play - it would
either be #51 Jerod Mayo, #23 Patrick Chung, or #50 Rob Ninkovich. Mayo
gets tied up with TE Kyle Rudolph after biting on the play fake and
Chung then goes to cover Rudolph. Ninkovich has the option to follow
Asiata in the flat, but chooses to go after Cassel instead after the
fake handoff (note: my thought is that it's most likely Mayo was
responsible and Ninkovich was just rushing the passer). After using Greg
Jennings running a deep route to once again clear Revis out of the way,
Asiata has absolutely no one in between him and the endzone and Cassel
dumps it off letting Asiata run in for an easy TD. Once again, we can
see that the Patriots were prepared for the Jet Sweep, but they weren't
prepared for a fake Jet Sweep. This is good play design on the Vikings
part, and they exploited this twice on their opening drive
