With the kids home from school, and with the rain, wind, and snow outside, you moms and dads out there might be desperate for ideas to keep your kids entertained indoors. Naturally, were pretty crafty here at Plywerk, what with all the. So we came up with a list of our favorite, family-friendly, green winter craft ideas.

1. DIY fusible bead gift toppers

Fusible beads (those beads that fuse together when you add a little heat) can be put together in all sorts of shapes. They make for original, colorful gift decorationsbonus points for most creative shapes! Note that this does require the use of an iron, so adult supervision goes without saying. Check out the full how-to , and be sure you dont accidentally fuse the beads to your fingers

2. Custom snowflake wrapping paper using a pine branch

This is maybe the easiest way to make your own wrapping paper design that weve ever seen, and it also literally a green one. Just use the tip of a pine branch, with needles intact (see, green!), to dab some white paint onto solid-colored wrapping paper. While the official instructions call for blue paper, you might want to spice it up with some red, green, or you know, whatever you want, and get as creative as you want!

A construction paper wreath is the perfect way to decorate your bedroom door or refrigerator to make the winter more cheery this year.

Alternative:  Instead of using a paper snowflake as the center.


** Materials:
------------------------------------------------------------
* ring of cardboard (empty cereal boxes work wonderfully),
* blue and white construction paper,
* scissors,
* glue,
* small piece of wool.

* Optional:  stapler and tape

* Trace a small plate and a large plate onto a piece of old cardboard.  (My 6 year old enjoys tracing by herself.  My 3 year old prefers I do this part.).

* Empty cereal boxes or frozen dinner boxes work well as a source of recycled cardboard.

* It doesn't matter if you go over the folds of the cardboard
* Cut a small strip of cardboard and glue or tape it onto the back of the ring over any folds in the cardboard.

* This will reinforce the ring.

* Cut strips of construction paper (about 1 1/2 inches by 4 inches).

* Glue the strips into rolls (like making a paper chain).

* In kindergarten/grade one, pattern practice is important.  Allow the children to design and repeat a pattern of blue and white loops (we did single alternating, but there are lots of things kids could do... like 2 blue, 1 white).

* Glue the rolls of construction paper onto the wreath.

* For the center snowflake decoration, cut a small snowflake out of paper.
