Run or Walk?

 Yeah, you have to use more energy (burn more calories) because running
uses your muscle at a higher intensity while pushing off, cushioning
impact, balancing while you're off the ground, more arm and core muscles
to keep momentum, as well as muscles involved in the cardiovascular
system. (walking also uses this stuff, just less). also, running
requires more recruitment of white "fast twitch" muscle fibers, which
exhaust quickly but burn a lot of energy in a short amount of time.
walking, because it's slower, you can rely more on red muscle fibers,
which are better for sustained activity and basically work more
efficiently. so even though walking the same distance means youre
spending more time walking, you're still making more of your body work
when you run. you would expect a happy medium while jogging, but if
you'd rather jog than run, you should just walk. The impact on the body
can be as high as running (wear on joints), but you don't get as many
benefits (muscle strengthening etc), so its not really worth it.
