Deb Cooley has entered the following ballot position for draft-ietf-lisp-name-encoding-10: No Objection When responding, please keep the subject line intact and reply to all email addresses included in the To and CC lines. (Feel free to cut this introductory paragraph, however.) Please refer to https://www.ietf.org/about/groups/iesg/statements/handling-ballot-positions/ for more information about how to handle DISCUSS and COMMENT positions. The document, along with other ballot positions, can be found here: https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-ietf-lisp-name-encoding/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- COMMENT: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Thank you to Rich Salz for his secdir review. I agree with Rich's conclusions and would encourage the author to explain and clarify that design choice (use of ASCII characters). This would include explaining how errors would be handled in the case of incorrect ASCII values being used. If the use of ASCII characters with no restrictions persists, then I encourage an addition to the Security Considerations to discuss the consequences of inappropriate ASCII choices. I also agree that the use of 'Distinguished Name' is an unfortunate collision. Given that, perhaps a definition could be added to Section 2.
