Colleagues, For those that don't follow MAILMAINT, there was a Call For Adoption issued for the CLIENTID SMTP and IMAP drafts, but the call was not sustained. The working group did not reach consensus to adopt the work for development and publication; the primary reasons were: (1) MAILMAINT is chartered to take up only things that are too small to warrant their own working groups, and CLIENTID probably does deserve a dedicated working group; (2) There were concerns with the approach CLIENTID currently takes to solve the problem(s) it purports to solve. To me (1) is the main point, and the WG suggested that a dedicated working group would be the preferable approach. To that end, I want to test the waters here. The process of creating a working group requires a draft charter and, typically, a Birds of a Feather (BoF) session to explore the problem space. IETF 121 in Dublin takes place in November, which is where we would schedule the next BoF. The deadline to submit a request for a BoF is September 6. If there are people on this list that would be willing to commit to working up a charter and participating in a resulting working group, please either reply here or to me privately and we can start this process up if there's a sufficient critical mass to make this worth doing. -MSK
