Dear colleague,

We are pleased to invite you to contribute to a special issue titled
"*Blockchain
and AI for Secure and Trustworthy Cyber-Physical Systems*" in Blockchain
journal. This issue will focus on the theory, design, and evaluation of
blockchain-AI-enabled CPS.

Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) integrate sensing, computation, control, and
networking to provide intelligent services in safety-critical domains,
including transportation, healthcare, manufacturing, and energy. Continued
scaling and interconnection of these systems rapidly increase exposure to
cyber-attacks, privacy breaches, and reliability failures. Traditional
protection mechanisms, predicated on centralized control and static threat
assumptions, are inadequate for the resulting dynamic and heterogeneous
operating environments. The convergence of blockchain and Artificial
Intelligence (AI) establishes a transformative architecture for
next-generation CPS: blockchain guarantees tamper-proof, decentralized data
provenance and coordination, whereas AI delivers adaptive learning,
predictive analytics, and autonomous defense. Their integration enables CPS
to acquire new knowledge, autonomously recover from disruptions, and
preserve end-to-end verifiability even when confronted with sophisticated
adversaries.

As a leading researcher in this exciting field, your expertise would
provide valuable insights to this issue. We believe your work aligns
perfectly with the themes we aim to highlight, including but not limited to:

   - Blockchain-based data integrity and traceability for CPS;
   - Blockchain-enabled federated learning for distributed CPS;
   - Decentralized identity management and access control for CPS;
   - Blockchain and AI based verifiable and trustworthy solutions in CPS;
   - Distributed consensus and lightweight blockchain protocols for CPS;
   - Blockchain-based trust management for intelligent CPS;
   - Application of Blockchain and AI to enhance the reliability of CPS;
   - Blockchain and AI-aided intrusion detection in CPS;
   - AI-optimized blockchain networks designed for CPS;
   - Secure and privacy-preserving collaborative learning in CPS;
   - AI-enabled cross-chain interoperability for secure and trustworthy CPS;
   - Redactable blockchain protocols for CPS;
   - AI-enabled adaptive sharding schemes in CPS;
   - AI-assisted smart contract security for CPS.

 *Important Date*

Submission Deadline: 31 March 2026

*Guest Editors*

Prof. Weizhi Meng, Lancaster University, UK

        Xueqin Liang, Xidian University, China

*Submission Guidelines*

Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit original research
articles, letters, commentaries, reviews, and perspectives that address the
aforementioned topics. Manuscripts should be prepared according to the
journal's Instructions for Authors
<https://www.elspub.com/journals/blockchain/authors/> and submitted through
the online submission system <https://jms.elspub.com/login>.

All submissions will undergo a single-blind peer-review process with at
least two review reports received to ensure the quality and relevance of
the published work as the regular submission. Articles are published online
immediately upon acceptance. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for
publication is fully waived for this special issue.

We look forward to your response and would be delighted to discuss any
ideas you may have for your contribution.For any questions, please do not
hesitate to contact the editorial office blockchain@elspub.com.

Thank you very much for your consideration.
