  The IESG has approved the Internet-Draft "Use of an X.500/LDAP directory
  to support MIXER address mapping" <draft-ietf-mixer-directory-02.txt> as
  a Proposed Standard. This document is the product of the MIME - X.400
  Gateway Working Group. The IESG contact persons are Keith Moore and
  Harald Alvestrand.

Technical Summary

 This protocol describes how to use an X.500 or LDAP directory to
 distribute information about the correct mapping between X.400
 addresses and Internet E-mail addresses.

Working Group Summary

 Questions have been raised about the goodness of having two means
 of distributing mapping information (DNS and Directory) on the standards
 track. With the MIXER spec, the requirement for a single, complete, globally
 consistent list of mappings, which never worked in practice, was removed;
 there now seems consensus that having both methods is reasonable.

Protocol Quality

 The spec has been reviewed for the IESG by Harald Alvestrand.
