To me, the definition of an RTP session in Section 2.2.2 of RFC 7656 looks accurate even accounting for RTP Mixers (as RTP mixer is defined in RFC 3550). 

Many RTP topologies use middleboxes that are not RFC 3550 compliant, so don’t fit with this definition of an RTP Session, but that’s a problem with they way those middleboxes are defined. RFC 7667 tries to identify some of these issues.
