I used this site from the UK national railways to check
times and fares: http://nationalrail.co.uk/times_fares/

 From Liverpool street (LST) to Ipswitch (IPS) takes about
1:15 and costs 9 GBP one-way if you buy it on-line via an
agent (it is the cheapest).
