Hi Greg,

I didn’t mix anything. We are discussing the requirement of a new extension to MPLS data plane here in IETF.

Please note that entropy is not a use case listed in draft-ietf-mpls-mna-usecases. Thus before working on the extension, it is reasonable to ask and check about the requirement first.

Best regards,
Jie

Hi Jie,
I responded to your note on the thread you've mentioned. It seems like you are mixing the discussion with your company's product management with the discussion of the optional extension of the MPLS data plane by MPLS WG.

Regards,
Greg

Just realized that I should also reply to this thread…

As being discussed in another thread about MPLS entropy, there are already several mechanisms for providing entropy in MPLS, and they have been deployed in production networks.

Without explicit requirements from operators, it seems providing yet another option for MPLS entropy is not beneficial.

Thus I do not support the adoption of this draft.

The draft offers a practical use of MNA. The drafts is well-written and is very clear on the proposed mechanism. I support the adoption of the draft by the MPLS WG.

Greg

Dear WG,

This email starts a two-week poll on adopting draft-li-mpls-mna-entropy as a MPLS working group document.

Please send your comments (support/not support) to the MPLS working group mailing list (mpls@ietf.org<mailto:mpls@ietf.org>).
Please give a technical motivation for your support/not support, especially if you think that the document
should not be adopted as a working group document.

Currently, there are no IPR disclosure against this document. All the authors/contributors have stated on
the MPLS WG mailing list that they are unaware of any undisclosed IPRs that relates to this document.

This working group adoption poll ends October 16, 2024.
