Harald,

We've unfortunately been back and forth on this, and there has been a great
deal of discussion. Unfortunately, the people involved got Nathaniel to
agree that it was an appropriate top-level type, and it got into the middle
of Jon's somewhat confused (I believe) "type registration" RFC. We _can_
change the designation -- either to a "see how this actually works"
Experimental "extension" to MIME, or to put it on the standards track with
an extended last call if you like, but the basic idea is actually probably
sound -- I resisted it very strongly for a while, but was gradually convinced.

I'll send you the back correspondence when I get back to Reston at the end
of the week -- unfortunately don't have it with me.

What would you like to do?

Steve, unless Harald has very strong feelings on this, please create a
general agenda item about media types: the rest of IESG should at least be
aware of the general issues and controversy.
