While I am in favour of travel hubs, and returning to the places that have
worked, I do not believe that the travel costs or meeting fee costs are the
core thing that is keeping people from being more involved in the IETF.

Toxic mailing lists like ietf@ietf costs us more, as we spend lots of
recruitment only to lose people. A clearer plan to move to more online
meetings, and more team-building at in-person meetings would be helpful.

I further think we need to find better ways to acknowledge all the people who
are not listed authors that are involved in document production.
We need to find a way to better fund AD positions, and we need to fix their
workload. Note that dollars in salaries might be less important for ADs than
better acknowledgement of their sponsors.

Having said that, there is a growing pool of "retired" people who continue to
be involved in the IETF, and I don't mind subsidizing their travel and lodging.

{Even Brisbane, had we known sooner, could have been as cheap as Bangkok for me}
