Well, clearly it was some thread I was involved in, and it was either 
on namedroppers (which this is the child of, right?) or NANOG, and it was
in the context, I think, of Unicode more generally than I18N names (which 
is the present context, right? I wandered in late).

And I'm pretty sure I Told You So.  :-)

I'll see if I can either locate it in someone's archives or remember
what it was; the argument -- that whatever machination someone was trying 
to apply to DNS that would make DNS work better would break lots of 
other protocols -- was not mine; I was merely kibitzing, as I so often do.
