No -- customers who know XPath report this YANG-ism as a bug.
It would require 2 lines of code to be changed in our code to accept
numbers.
I don't think an errata should require a code change.

But it returns true/false, not a node-set.
The expression /foo[text() = 'fred'] is not the same as /foo[. = 'fred']
