Just when you thought it was safe to go in the water again!

The changes in this rfc5661bis-06 are just a preview of what you will see,
early next week, in acls-04 and rfc5662bis-03.

The quick summary is that, as a result of discussions with Rick, I
have seen the important gaps between the core UNIX ACL model and the draft
POSIX ACL model.  Given that accommodating the latter was an important goal
of the approach taken to ACLs in RFC3530, I have concluded that the failure
of the existing treatment to provide sufficient  support for *either *the
larger NFSv4 ACL model or the draft POSIX ACL model is of sufficient
gravity to consider the gaps defects that justify some
protocol extensions.  The details will be in acls-04.

I hope that, as a result, we will be able to provide reasonable support for
the draft POSIX ACL model within NFSv4.1, although some client work will be
necessary to do mapping and filtering in order to working within the
framework of the existing XDR.  Regarding Rick's desire for a more
draft-POSIX-friendly  approach there would be room for that as a v4.2
extension and I will discuss  some possibilities in that regard in a new
Appendix C in acl-04.  Stay tuned.

   This document describes the Network File System (NFS) version 4 minor
   version 1, including features retained from the base protocol (NFS
   version 4 minor version 0, which is specified in RFC 7530) and
   protocol extensions made subsequently.  The later minor version has
   no dependencies on NFS version 4 minor version 0, and was, until
   recently, documented as a completely separate protocol.

   This document is part of a set of documents which collectively
   obsolete RFCs 8881 and 8434.  In addition to many corrections and
   clarifications, it will rely on NFSv4-wide documents to substantially
   revise the treatment of protocol extension, internationalization, and
   security, superseding the descriptions of those aspects of the
   protocol appearing in RFCs 5661 and 8881.
