BakeAThon and ConnectAThon requirements: Local ethernet network for testing o Should be firewalled from host site's intranet o incoming to protect attendees o outgoing to protect host o Should be firewalled from incoming traffic from internet o if external access is necessary, use ssh keys to control o Unfiltered outgoing connections to the internet o this may be contrary to host's policy o not all attendees use vpn o following are minimal services necessary o http, https o ssh o git o vpn protocols o imap, pop o someone onsite with the authority and ability to permit additional access as requested by attendees o Any NAT must support multiple VPN connections to external sites o Should be responsive under load o Vague, but the host will be constantly reminded when the internet connection resembles a wet straw o Wireless access to test network o preferred, not a hard requirement o 4 static ip per person o minimum requirement, should poll for more o this acknowledges that a lot of testing is on virtual machines o must include IPv4 and IPv6 addresses o event provided IPv6 addresses must not be link-local o global IPv6 routing should be provided by the host, not mandated o DHCP for both networks o static DNS entries (for servers) o new sub-domains must be easy to create for some testing scenarios o FedFS is driving the need to make adjustments o all ip must be resolvable (IPv4 and IPv6) o there must be a domain name o connectathon.org o should also be the NFSv4 domain name o with a TXT record o krb5 server o not always used, but should be available o ldap/nis service with some test identities o immediate access to all firewall, router, dhcp, dns, etc. configuration by someone with ability and authority to fix problems Physical needs o 2 network ports and cables per person o 2 power outlets per person o Might need more, gather requirements o Might need electrician the first day o 2'x3' working space per person o Separate room for discussions o No presentations in testing room o No other distractions (cough, World Cup, cough) o Separate machine room for noisy equipment o Must be able to have machines on same network o Fast connection between rooms o Will need AC o Printed copy of network configuration at each station o email copy is nice, but not sufficient o Small conference room for conversation and conference calls o Adequate and secure parking Security o Minimal access is from 8am to 8pm o Must be able to leave equipment (i.e., laptops) in testing room o Equipment recieved from attendees must remain packaged and only opened/powered with an attendee is present o I.e., security is to not only protect the interests of the host but the visitors o Attendees must be able to easily get from test room to exterior o Cell phone calls NDA o Not always a requirement o Please base off of http://www.connectathon.org/cthon_liability_2010.pdf o Cameras o Even if no NDA, must ask permission before taking pictures of equipment o It is nice to take pictures of attendees, but please make sure you ask first and do not capture any screen shots o One benefit of hosting is to bring in people who normally would not attend o No competitive analysis
