Resending this. Deadline is today. If you're still writing - please try to
get it in today. Jill

*** Deadline for papers is December 15th. ***

We need *good* papers and *good* speakers for the area of User Support,
Training and User Applications.

*** This includes multi media, electronic publishing and "virtual
libraries" as well as the above. ***

Please consider submitting a paper - or encouraging a(nother) good speaker
to do so. This is your chance to make sure the conference is of interest to
you and your colleagues! The programme can only be as good as the papers it
receives.

This is a big conference. INET '93 had over 800 attendees.

Please feel free to post this message on to suitable mailing lists within
your own country.

The full call for papers and information on paper submission is appended.
Before that - I've pulled out the information on "Our area" and added some
of my own thoughts on possible sessions within this track. These are not
exhaustive. Papers on any related topic are welcome.

Thanks for your help and support

Jill Foster (INET User Support, Training and User Applications Track leader)

>From Call for papers:

4. Support and Training for International Communities of Interest

- Support of international collaboration
- Globalization of user support services (including support for
multiple
languages and character sets in applications and information
systems)

- Supercomputing
- High energy physics, atmospheric modeling, and other scientific
        applications
- Education/distance learning
- Medical research and clinical applications
- Libraries
- Work and play in Cyberspace: How networks are changing the
social nature of work and play
- Networking and the arts

        international development

- Networked information retrieval
- User documentation
- Navigation services

Some sketchy ideas for possible sessions:

 1. Building and Supporting Electronic Communities
         (Includes Distance Education & K-12)
        - training and support

        - methodology

 2. Electronic Publishing and Document Delivery
This is an area I'd like to see some progress on this year. We
need papers/tutorials on:
        - tools
        - editors
        - URN/URL etc?
        - SGML - practical experiences
        - publishers experiences
        - document delivery

 3. NIDR: Towards The Virtual Library
        (Networked Information Discovery and Retrieval)
        WWW, gopher, WAIS etc
        Scalability (Mosaic/W3 etc)
Other issues including Quality Information/Publishing and Libraries
        Novel uses of NIR tools.

 4. Providing Integrated Access to the Network
        - integrating tools on the desk top
        - tools for personal information management

 5. Training for the Network Citizen
        - teaching "safe networking"
        - training over the network
        - interactive Multi Media training

 6. Panel+: User Help Thyself!
         Papers + panel sessions covering
        - Methods of spreading the support load
        - Empowering users to help themselves
        - Documentation

Don't forget too that the Conference Committee welcomes proposals for
demonstrations.

So! Do think seriously about submitting a paper if you have real experience
in any of the areas above.

Thanks again - Jill
