Hi Vincent, Marie-José, all,

We have resubmitted a revision of the symbol representation ID, as promised. Here are the links:

URL: https://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-heide-nwcrg-rlnc-01.txt

Status: https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-heide-nwcrg-rlnc/

Htmlized: https://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-heide-nwcrg-rlnc-01

Htmlized: https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/html/draft-heide-nwcrg-rlnc

Diff: https://www.ietf.org/rfcdiff?url2=draft-heide-nwcrg-rlnc-01

This is the "symbol representation" part of the original ID. Following Vincent's helpful comments, we decided to separate it from the RLNC background section. The latter was submitted as an informational ID earlier this week:

https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-heide-nwcrg-rlnc-background

Apart from the split, there are two main changes in the revision that are in line with the Montreal discussion and Vincent's comments:

1.	We have added a paragraph and a reference (to the background ID) to support the choice of Symbol Representation as a standardization target - that topic is covered in more detail in the RLNC Background ID.
2.	We have modified the figures in line with Vincent's 32-bit template. No question this looks better.

Thanks again to the authors and chairs. We look forward to further comments and suggestions from everyone.

Best,

Kerim

Subject: Re: [nwcrg] Review of draft-heide-nwcrg-rlnc-00

Dear all,

Thanks to Janus and Vincent for the comments and responses below. We have decided to follow Vincent’s recommendation at Montreal and separate the draft into an informational draft (RLNC Background) and the symbol representation itself. I have just submitted the RLNC Background part as an informational – see link below. This ID corresponds to the RLNC tutorial Marie-José has been recommending for a while.

Link to new informational on RLNC background:

https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-heide-nwcrg-rlnc-background

Section 2 is meant to be an open section listing practical considerations related to the standardization and deployment of RLNC. It currently has a sub-section with technical arguments on symbol representation as a valuable standardization target – a follow-up to our discussion in Montreal. Other contributions are welcome!

I plan on presenting a few slides on the updates to the RLNC ID in Prague (most likely online), if there is time and interest. We will be re-submitting the symbol representation part as a second version of the RLNC ID soon. In the meantime, we would appreciate comments and recommendations.

Best,

Kerim
