The final Editors meeting is scheduled for next February in Barcelona. The new version will contain all Addenda and Technical Corrigenda which have been developed since the first publication of ODA in 1989, e.g., the colour addendum and the addendum on security. Except for some new encoding types for raster images, no new content architectures will be included. - - The inclusion of JPEG pictures has already been discussed in WG 3 and it is rather likely that JPEG will be added in the future. I believe that JPEG does not require a real new content architecture. It is probably sufficient to deal with JPEG as an additional encoding for raster images, and maybe one or two new attributes have to be added. (Group 4 fax is already included in ODA). - - WG 3 is currently working very actively on hypermedia extensions of the ODA standard where one of these extensions is the introduction of the concept of time, e.g., each layout object receives a position and duration on the time axis in addition to the current two-dimensional spatial coordinates. - - Another part of ODA currently under development is "Part 9: Audio Content Architectures". Obviously, the above mentioned concept of time is required when introducing audio content. - - Having introduced the concept of time into ODA, the inclusion of content types such as MPEG should be straightforward. There exists not yet a firm plan to really include MPEG, but forwarding a respective requirement to ISO (by means of your ISO national member body) would most likely initiate such a project. - - There exists a close liaison to the MHEG group in SC 29. In fact, WG 3 members participate in MHEG meetings, and vice versa. - - The usage of X.400 for transmitting ODA documents is already addressed in Part 1 of the ODA standard.
