Hi Andre, isn't gpgtar (which I assume is still used by Kleopatra on Windows to encrypt folders) also "unstandardized" by OpenPGP? For all practical purposes, compressed archive formats are well-established across all platforms, so it's unclear to me what kind of problems you fear.
