Subject: DUA and DSA metrics
Message-ID: <9209221214.aa09651@NRI.Reston.VA.US>

At the 8th meeting of the IETF Directory Services Group I volunteered
to compile a Informational Document that has DSA and DUA Metrics
reports as in OSI-DS 33 and OSI-DS 34.

The consensus at that meeting was that it is not possible to gauge the
importance of these documents without applying these metrics to various
DUA and DSA implementations. A few even suggested that most DSA
implementations should be comparable and hence these metrics will be
valuable.

I am writing this to request you to apply these metrics to the DUA and
DSA implementations you are using or building and send me the results.
I will, at least post summaries of the responses to motivate others to
start applying the metrics. The following people volunteered to apply
these metrics at the last meeting:

   * Erik to apply it to Siemens DSA
   * Tim to apply it to DUAs
   * Russ to apply it to DUAs

Can some others please volunteer to apply the metrics to QUIPU, ICL,
Dirwiz, Pissaro, etc.

The OSI-DS 33 and OSI-DS 34 documents are available via anonymous
ftp at "cs.ucl.ac.uk" under the osi-ds directory. The relevant files
are: "osi-ds-33-00.ps", "osi-ds-33-00.txt", "osi-ds-34-00.ps",
and "osi-ds-34-00.txt".

If it is easier for you, you may print out the document, fill up
the forms and FAX the results to me. I will take care of formatting
it. If there is a demand, I can create ASCII forms without pagebreaks
to make it easier to fill things in electronically.

I look forward to your responses.

Regards,
