Description of Working Group:

The OSI-DS group's mission is to enable building a global
Directory Service based on X.500 and to facilitate its
deployment on the Internet. The primary focus is on developing
agreements and technical specifications needed to make this
happen. The WG will not be directly concerned with piloting
and service activities, but will liaise with such activities.

The WG has a number of specific goals, listed below. In
addition, there are areas which the WG is likely to take on in
future, but do not have specific timescales. These include:
         - procedures for schema management
	 - upgrade to 1993 X.500
	 - relationship to security activities
	 - use of X.500 beyond White Pages services
	 - mechanisms to stimulate service activity

Goals and Milestones:

July 93 Define a mechanism for representing IP addressing
              information in the DIT (RFC).

July 93 Define metrics of DUAs and DSAs (RFC).

Ongoing Maintain a Schemama for the OSI Directory on the Internet

Ongoing Liaisons should be established as appropriate. In
particular: RARE-NAP, OIW, CCITT/ISO IEC, North American
Directory Forum, IDS WG, MHS-DS WG.
