NSAR is an acronym for Non-Standard Attribute Retrieval.

At Curtin University, work has begun on attacking the problem of a non-standard
attribute (attributes that aren't commonly known, eg, in the oidtables) not
being interpreted remotely. Note, this is only a pilot and commercial
organisations may not wish to use this project at this date.

Firstly, it is expected that a more complete solution (with DSA) modification
is to be released by Rajeev, Raghavan, Mansfield and Howes
(draft-ietf-asid-schema-00.txt) soon and this should be kept in mind.

The NSAR Project modifies only the dish DUA, not the DSA, DSP or DAP, and
allows a site to contain non-standard attributes and still allow other sites
(with non-standard attribute aware DUAs) to interpret the non-standard
attribute, even though they have no definition of the attribute. More
information can be obtained by anonymously ftp'ing the file

	pub/nsar/instkit.tar.Z

from
	marsh.cs.curtin.edu.au

Note, while you are there, the

	pub/nsar/documents

directory contains two files worthwhile reading;

	pub/nsar/documents/general.ps.Z
	pub/nsar/documents/install.ps.Z

The instkit.tar.Z file contains a shell script to modify two files in the
ISODE/QUIPU 8.0 code
(two files are modified using the diff modification commands) and a backup
of the two modified files is made. This allows manual restoration in the
event of disapproval.

Please direct any questions/comments/criticisms to myself, Richard Larkin

or my dissertation supervisor, Dr Don Reid

Thankyou.
