Yes, it is possible.  I have done it from my house using the following
combination: Merit's PPP packet driver, NCSA Telnet config. file set up
to use the PPP driver, and Bud, the simple DOS user agent we developed
here at U-M that uses NCSA TCP/IP code.  I am sure it can be done over
slip also.  It worked OK at 2400bps from my 486 PC, although faster
would be much better I am sure.

The Merit ppp packet driver is available on merit.edu in /pub/ppp.
I think the file ppp.exe is a self-extracting archive.  Bud is on
terminator.cc.umich.edu in /x500/bud.exe.  The DIXIE client library
is what Bud uses, and we plan to port LDAP to the PC also, for those
who want to build their own UA.
