Subject: Represent Internet applications in the X.500 Directory
Hello,
I want to represent an Internet application (e.g gopher, archie, etc)
in the X.500 Directory, but I don't know where I can put this object.
a) In the organizational X.500 hierarchy, and represent it as an
Application Entity, under an Application Process (home host)?, or
b) In the DNS X.500 hierarchy, and represent it as an Application Entity,
under a Application Process, too an Domain Name?, or
c. In the DNS X.500 hierarchy, and represent it as a Domain Name
(dNSDomain), and use the attribute dNSRecord to describe this
Internet Application Service in an WKS/DNS resource record?
In a) and b), the problem is that the mandatory attribute
"presentationAddress" of Application Entities, addresses only OSI
application entities.
The problem in c), is that we can only represent an Internet application
service with an attribute value rarely used.
I've read the RFC1279 - X.500 and Domains, and in the 9th. section, they
talks about the representation of Application Entities in the DNS X.500
Hierarchy, but I'm very confused about this.
Can anybody help me?
thanks,
