Hi. Steve mentioned that it would be okay with him if we were to
ask the osi.ds group to help us gather some information. We are writing
a book on heterogeneous networks. We want the book to contain
practical information on how to manage and live with multiprotocol
networks. So we would like to hear about your network environment.

If you would like to participate in our survey, please fill out the
questionaire attached below.

					Thanks, Ursula.

QUESTIONS ABOUT YOUR NETWORKING ENVIRONMENT
-------------------------------------------
Please answer the following questions:

1. What is the dominant network protocol in your environment?

2. What is the approximate size of your network (10 systems, 100 systems,
1,000 systems, or more than 1,000 systems)?

3. What other network protocols, if any, are currently in use?

4. Why are these protocols being used?

5. Are you currently using OSI services over OSI Transport, or OSI services
over TCP/IP (please specify which you are using)?

6. Do you plan to use OSI services over OSI Transport or OSI services over
TCP/IP in the future (please specify which one you will use)?

   If yes, when, and why?

7. What major problems have you encountered in an heterogeneous networking
   environment?

8. Do you plan to add additional network protocols to your environment?

If yes, which ones and why?

9. Do you plan to remove any network protocols from your environment?

   If yes, why?

10.Do all systems in your network need to communicate with each other?

11.What do you think are the most important things to know about planning
   an heterogeneous network and why?

12.What do you think are the most important things to know about designing
and/or configuring an heterogeneous network and why?

13.What do you think are the most important things to know about managing
   an heterogeneous network and why?
