I don't know what went wrong. Could you possibly send it for me to the osi-ds list, I'll have to check into our gateway. That's likely where the problem is. Thanks Sharon Regarding the last paragraph of your previous message on multi-strings. The problem is a recognized one in the ISO/IEC and CCITT arenas as well. There is a proposal for a New Project on Internationalization of the Directory out for ballot right now in ISO/IEC JTC 1. I don't know the JTC 1 document number for the official ballot but if you want to see the documentation of the proposal for new work it is contained in an ISO/IEC JTC 1 SC 21 document (N 7019). The 1992 edition of the Directory standard introduces a type for strings encoded in the Universal Coded Character Set (UCS) ISO 10646, but this by itself is not sufficient for the Directory to support an international distributed environment. The issues you are currently discussing are directly relevant to this proposed project in ISO. Even more critical that ordinary attribute values in entries is support for those used in naming entries, if the Directory is to be used both locally in various parts of the world and distributed across those same parts. The initial proposal submitted for consideration in ISO introduces alternate RDN values and alternate attribute values. Should the project be approved, following the current ballot, technical work on the subject is scheduled to begin at the SC 21 meeting in Yokohama Japan, June 1993. If work is progressed earlier in another forum, it would certainly be valuable to have it as input to that 93 meeting.
