Subject: PRODiR root level results
Until the end of 1992 NeXor was contracted by the PARADISE project to
collect and publicise the Directory Probing statistics.
In the PARADISE Transition Phase project this activity seems to be
unfunded and NeXor did send no longer any reports.
The probing software I did also run on my site was still working for the
Swiss DSAs and I continued to inform the Swiss DSA managers about the
availability of their machines. For the root level the program produced
always a core dump, so I stopped running it for the top level.
During an indonesian dinner at the IETF last week we did discuss the
probing of DSAs and I promised to look into the configuration of my prodir
program to find out whether I get it working again. (I already had an idea
what caused the core dumps but did not take the effort to really nail it
down before.)
The problem was c=FR@o=CNRS@cn=opaxdsa which immediately after the
probe did dump a core. I did now patch the configuration to skip this
DSA and it works again!
I do only probing for Internet and EuropaNet X.25 (formarly IXI).
Pulic X.25 is too costly to do without any funding.
I will submit the probe results to the community as long as this program
runs on my site.
I will not distribute the prodir program. It was written by NeXor by the
time they were named X-Tel. Even I could not find a copyright statement
in any of the files I do not like to run into legal problems.
You will have to ask NeXor whether they make it still available or not.
I could however supply the config patch script which makes the old
binary running again.
