Subject: Re: Government of Canada X.400/SMTP Gateway

I would ask the managers of this gateway to seriously consider converting
their gateway to conform to the established standard, RFC 1327, for
gatewaying addresses between Internet and X.400.

I would secondly ask them to consider using mapping rules to make the
communication between the two networks less painful.

The standards violation:

    /C=<Country Code>/ADMD=<ADMD Name>/PRMD=<PRMD Name>/O=<Organization
    Name>/OU=<Organizational Unit Name>/S=<Surname>/G=<Given Name>/
    I=<Initials>/DDT=<Domain Defined Attribute Type>/DDV=<Domain Defined
    Attribute Value>/@gemdes.carleton.ca

In RFC 1327 syntax, this should be:

    /DD.<type>=<value>/G=<given>/I=<init>/S=<surname>/....../C=<country>/
             @gemdes.carleton.ca

Note that the default sequence is different, and that the encoding of the
domain defined attributes is different.

If mapping rules were used, a form of the address indistinguishable from
a standard Internet address could be used for many common cases.
