Dear PANRG, My colleague Corine and I have submitted draft-dekater-scion-dataplane-00 <https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-dekater-scion-dataplane/>, describing SCION’s path-aware data plane. We now finally have a full set of drafts describing all of SCION’s core components: SCION Data Plane <https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-dekater-scion-dataplane/> SCION Control Plane <https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-dekater-scion-controlplane/> SCION Control-Plane PKI <https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-dekater-scion-pki/> SCION Overview <https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-dekater-panrg-scion-overview/> SCION Components Analysis <https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-rustignoli-panrg-scion-components/> At the next PANRG meeting in Prague we are planning to have a bigger SCION discussion. We will present the latest drafts, and discuss a way forward for the SCION work. We are looking forward to your feedback, especially on the data and control plane drafts. Besides that, we are also planning to have a small hackathon project in Prague, we’ll be adding more information to the hackathon wiki <https://wiki.ietf.org/en/meeting/118/hackathon>. Best, Corine de Kater, Nicola Rustignoli > Begin forwarded message: > > From: internet-drafts@ietf.org > Subject: New Version Notification for draft-dekater-scion-dataplane-00.txt > Date: 28 September 2023 at 11:52:50 CEST > To: "Corine de Kater" <cdk@scion.org>, "Nicola Rustignoli" <nic@scion.org> > > A new version of Internet-Draft draft-dekater-scion-dataplane-00.txt has been > successfully submitted by Corine de Kater and posted to the > IETF repository. > > Name: draft-dekater-scion-dataplane > Revision: 00 > Title: SCION Data Plane > Date: 2023-09-28 > Group: Individual Submission > Pages: 54 > URL: https://www.ietf.org/archive/id/draft-dekater-scion-dataplane-00.txt > Status: https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-dekater-scion-dataplane/ > HTML: https://www.ietf.org/archive/id/draft-dekater-scion-dataplane-00.html > HTMLized: https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/html/draft-dekater-scion-dataplane > > > Abstract: > > This document describes the data plane of the path-aware, inter- > domain network architecture SCION (Scalability, Control, and > Isolation On Next-generation networks). One of the basic > characteristics of SCION is that it gives path control to endpoints. > The SCION control plane is responsible for discovering these paths > and making them available as path segments to the endpoints. The > responsibility of the *SCION data plane* is to combine the path > segments into end-to-end paths, and forward data between endpoints > according to the specified path. > > The SCION data plane fundamentally differs from today's IP-based data > plane in that it is _path-aware_: In SCION, interdomain forwarding > directives are embedded in the packet header. This document first > provides a detailed specification of the SCION data packet format as > well as the structure of the SCION header. SCION also supports > extension headers - these are described, too. The document then > shows the life cycle of a SCION packet while traversing the SCION > Internet. This is followed by a specification of the SCION path > authorization mechanisms and the packet processing at routers. SCION > also includes its own protocol to communicate failures to endpoints, > the SCION Control Message Protocol (SCMP). This protocol will be > described in a separate document, which will follow later. > > > > The IETF Secretariat > >
