Don't read too much into that omission. I omitted it as a matter of
fact, too obvious to even think that it needed to be mentioned...

Also, neither me or to my knowledge no one else in this thread has
proposed that we move into the face-to-face model. Of course, the
world isn't black and white and we do have a need to improve...
what's at question here is not whether face time should take
over list effort or vice versa, but whether we have enough of (a)
face time and (b) list effort and how to improve. From what
I have seen, we have problems on both, and every time we
do something that triggers an improvement in either one
we make a lot of progress.

Examples of where I've personally seen significant
improvements in progress and quality of output:

Face time
- organizing interims
- organizing teleconfs, design teams

List effort
- recruiting reviewers instead of just waiting it to happen
- effective question posing, summary, consensus call tactics
  from the chairs

Also, progress in just one component isn't necessarily
sufficient to really move forward. For instance, the
set of people on the list is different than the set of
people participating in the meeting discussion. Or
when there's a disconnect between people or a hard
issue to understand, face-to-face discussion can get
everyone on the same page fast. Or a detailed review,
which can only be done alone and in written form.
